“Kind of sounds like we’re not suppose to be calling on the dead!”
Well, here I go again thinking too much ~ If you get a chance please read Deuteronomy Chapter 18 vs. 10-11-12… kind of sounds like we’re not suppose to be calling on the dead!
When I read your question I didn’t even have to read the particular verses because I knew what you were referring to. Personally speaking, I’ve heard these verses used against me on several occasions.
For anyone who isn’t familiar with the book, chapter and verses, here it is from the New International Version (I picked this one because it specifically uses the word “medium”) –
10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.
On the face of it, I agree, it doesn’t look good. LOL
Okay, let’s take a look at what is being said here. First of all, these verses were written for a group of people who had fled Egypt. The command here is that they embrace the G-d of their ancestors, their traditions, rituals and beliefs, and reject the religious practices of the land they left.
If you take out the word “medium” and put in the word originally used, “necromancer,” you get a better sense of what is being said. “Necromancy” is the practice of asking the dead what the future holds, or how we are to conduct our lives.
In all the years I’ve done this work, the souls have always resisted questions from their loved ones who ask for advice. God prohibits the souls from answering questions about what we’re supposed to do with our lives. The reason is that it would take away from our obligation to learn from our lessons as best we can.
I cannot stress this enough… the purpose of a medium session is that you understand that death is not the end of life, love, or relationships. The souls want you to know that you are not alone, you haven’t been abandoned. Their desire is that they give you hope that will enable you to get up and out of bed, and put one foot in front of the other while you’re grieving.
It’s not so you can find out who your soul mate is, what job you should take, or what the lotto numbers are. As I’m always telling people, “Don’t believe your grandmother, just because she’s dead. Trust your heart.”
