First of all, I want to say, "Thank you," for your patience with me over the last several weeks. I've been busy making plans for my coaching practice, as well as this web/membership site. Then Sunday morning I heard God laughing at me.

I woke up around 3 am (which is becoming an annoying habit) and as usual, I've been thinking about how to make the eBook about weight loss I wrote work around my plans. You see, it was never my intention to write that eBook. I was writing another one when the idea to write this eBook came to me. I started writing it immediately as a report. Then it became a short eBook - about weight loss, of all things. Which made sense considering I had lost 75 pounds from my top weight of at least 300 pounds. Still, it wasn't anything I was excited about doing.

I sent a few copies out to people I knew, three weeks ago, just to make sure what I wrote made sense. One woman, Melanie, took what she read in the earliest version and ran with it. In three weeks, she's dropped 15 pounds. She told me that she hasn't been able to do that in the last 10 years.

A few people who bought my eBook after I started a small marketing campaign, wrote to tell me their story as to why they wanted to lose weight. I can't begin to tell you how touched I was by what I read.

Anyway, like I said, I wake up and look over at my clock. It's 3 am. I start thinking … and suddenly everything starts to make sense. I see how my new eBook can be the foundation the I set for my coaching business. I could see, in my mind's eye, this site taking shape. Most importantly, I could see how I can help people achieve their weight loss goals - and how I can help them achieve any other goal they care to using the same technology.

I could also see I wasn't going to get back to sleep anytime soon, so I started working on making this vision I was given a reality. I could also hear God laughing with joy that I was finally getting it. I couldn't help but laugh too.

My "plan" now is to learn how to...

When you set a goal, don't set one on what you know you can do. Don't stubbornly stick to a plan, either. Don't let the phrase,"I don't know how," stop you either.

On August 1, I started what I refer to as my "90 Day Experiment." I do this whenever I have a goal, and want to get my subconscious mind on board with what it is I want to do.

My goal for this particular experiment was to build my coaching business, using this site as the foundation. I knew I wanted to write an eBook, and that's what I started doing. The eBook was to explain my program, "Goal Setting for the Subconscious Mind," and how it can be used to manifest your desires.

Halfway into writing the book, doing what I was writing about, I was inspired to write about my weight loss, and how I used the program to do that. I've got to tell you, for a few days after that, even while I was writing my new report (which turned into an eBook) I kept asking myself, "Is this really what I want to write about? Weight loss?"

I kept at it, and 5 weeks later, it was written, edited, a cover was created, and Steve Massing set up the pages in this site to handle the sales. I have a goal as to how many copies I want to sell, and really no idea how I'm going to reach it (it's a HUGE goal). I do know I will.

Yesterday, I went to an office supply store to have a visual reminder of my goal laminated.

I did send a proposal to heavyweights in internet marketing, but I haven't heard back from them as of yet. If I don't hear from them tomorrow, or Tuesday, I'll send another email.

Here's my point. Many spiritual teachers, including myself, talk about "detaching from the outcome." I hear a lot of "success gurus" talking about the necessity of "planning your work, and working your plan."

When I started writing my eBook, I had no idea what I was going to do with it. My "plan" was to simply write the book. I ended up writing a different eBook altogether. When I started writing that, my plan was to write a quick report.

You can contact Steve Massing @ http:themassings.net/sitesbysteve/

My "plan" now is to learn how to market my new eBook, and while I'm at it, go back to finishing what I originally started writing.

When it comes to diets and dieting, a scale can be your friend, or a cruel tormenter. When I was dieting, and really conscious of my weight, I was on a scale constantly, sometimes more than once a day.

When I started the program I write about in my eBook, Change Your Mind, Lose Your Behind, since I wasn't dieting, I wasn't really concerned with what my scale showed as far as any weight loss. In fact, when I did get on a scale, my weight loss was so rapid, I thought I was sick!

A reader of my eBook emailed me yesterday to tell me how her eating habits are changing, and how she's already losing weight, something like 16 pounds. She was going to weigh herself again today.

We were emailing each other back and forth and I wanted to share with you one of my emails to her -

To be honest with you, I don't pay a lot of attention to the scale. My body seems to drop weight, plateau for a couple of weeks, then drop some more - repeat.

I was at 225 (give or take a pound or two - mostly give) for 3 or 4 weeks. Sunday morning I weighed 227. This morning I was 223. By the end of the month I'm sure I'll be at 220, maybe less. Then I'll probably be there for a couple of weeks ....

I'll let you know.

The only reason I even care is due to the eBook.

I wasn't even aware that I was at 225 pounds until I was inspired to write my eBook. Before that I was 235, and the battery in my scale petered out. I put another one in two weeks later, and I weighed in at 232. I didn't get on the scale for another 2 weeks, and the only reason I did so was because I was eating so much I thought I'd be back up to 235 pounds. You can imagine my surprise when I saw myself at 227!

A week later, I was at 225. That's when I started to write my eBook. Yesterday I weighed in at 223.

I think a scale is a good idea as far as knowing where you're starting, but keep in mind, it's only a marker. Don't get too crazy over it, especially if it shows you've "gained" a couple of pounds. A much better marker is how your clothes are fitting.

Speaking of which, at one point, I had dropped so much weight that a friend of mine, Debbie, said to me, "Do yourself a favor … start wearing a belt!" LOL I hadn't worn one in so long, it never occurred to me. The reason I didn't wear a belt was I had "Dunlap" disease. My stomach done lapped my belt.

The point I'm trying to make here is that if when you get on your scale, and the number you see makes you depressed, stop! You might want to get on it once a week, instead of every day (or every other day).

I once told a client who just "had" to get on her scale every day to put a "Post It" note with the weight she wanted to see written on it. Then a week later, she was to take it off and see how close she came. You can steal that idea if you'd like!

The Parable of the Pencil

I thought you may enjoy this inspirational story as many of you may be preparing for the new school year:

A pencil maker took a pencil aside before passing him along to a student. "There are five important things you need to know before I send you out into the world," he told the pencil. Don't forget these tips and you will become the best pencil you can be!

You will be able to do great things, but only if you allow yourself to be guided by someone else.

You will experience an uncomfortable sharpening from time to time, but it will help you become a better pencil.

You have the ability to correct any mistakes you might make.

The most important part of you will always be what's inside.

You must leave a mark on every surface you are used on.

The pencil understood and went forward excited to share his purpose with an eager student.

Here's the way I see it: We are like pencils in many ways. My favorite point (no pun intended) is that we must remember we have the ability to correct mistakes we may make if we try.
